I've Been A Little Angry Recently, Eh?

Alright, I'm feeling much better now so I'll be positive in this entry. Bruce Arena is such a nice peacemaker. Even though MLS decided to play a full slate of games on Saturday (which I guess is kind of nice for those who, for some reason, only care about club footcer), Arena has done his usual and released all unncessary personnel back to their MLS teams.

Yes, the day after the transfer window closed is a day for reconciliation.

The kumbayas are heard all around the world as Sepp Blatter is ready to embrace technology in the game (I forget his earlier position on goal line sensors but I'm thinking it was negative) to an extent and allow touchline censors to call a ball in or out should a test run at the World Junior Championships prove they are workable.

And in the name of world peace, Dutch authorities are now going that extra mile and making sure convicted hooligans are not at matches by calling them.

A computerized system will call them at home and make them say a prearranged sentence to prove its them at home and not at the match. But here's what I wonder about that. What if they wanted to run out to the store or something?

Oh, why am I even saying that? No true Dutch hooligan would possibly miss the beginning of the match to go out and grab a pint to bring home. Sorry.

Oops, almost got angry there...breathing in and out... :)

Ah yes, here's a nice story with wavy purple flowers and such. Two members of the Northern Ireland MNT decided to get really friendly and see the late night sights in Belfast before their next match against Azerbaijan. The mean, mean manager kicked them off the team for "missing curfew."

That's not very nice. :(

They should all apologize to each other since this is one of the few wins the crappy Northern Ireland team can get. Oops. I mean, the poor souls who have been underachieving but are really better than their record and game play would indicate should try to win this match and start building for Euro 2006. ;)

But the most important story of reconciliation of all is that FIFA will allow the United Kingdom to have a joint footcer team at the 2012 Olympics with no reprocussions.

As I've mentioned here before, the sticking point has been that Scotland (and to a lesser extent England, Northern Ireland, and Wales) worries that to join in an all-Britain team would jeopardize their independent status for post-2012 World Cups.

Now the question is will the four FAs all agree to it now that this hurdle has been lifted? Probably not.

The most interesting proposal I've seen is that the four FAs will have an all Great Britain qualifying tournament with the four teams playing round robin to determine which of the four teams gets to represent the whole country.

Now that's not very reconcillatory. Can't we all just get along in the footcer world for one day?
